They took the necessary elements of the marlene character, the archaeologist father murdered by marc’s merc group, and made an infinitely more interesting, capable, and independent character for the show I mean, they're practically the same person, but i think may calamawy just brings something more to the role. Layla is far superior to marlene.
Why the character layla instead of marlene And honestly, i kinda prefer layla to marlene Layla is a completely original character for the show and marlene can be any ethnicity (if it was about wanting more people of color in the cast)
I read a few interviews about why they went with such an obscure villain, but i haven’t seen any explanation for the romantic lead

The current marvel comics editorial directive is to lead the mcu, not follow it, and definitely not be graphic novel adaptations of it They know they need to go. From what she hinted so far it seems her backstory is similar to marlene's in that she was at the dig site marc hit in egypt Reply reply misaki_akuma001 • in mcu tends to mix characteristics of many comic characters into one character some examples are laura.
Jake and layla having a baby like he and marlene in the comics comments best add a comment caradune01 • 3 yr
Layla is a combination of two female moon knight characters Marlene is the daughter of a murdered archaeologist, and leila o'toole is the one mixed up with the avatars, ameet and so forth I suppose it would be easy to add layla in simply as the scarlet scarab with no connection to marlene (beyond that both of their fathers were archaeologists) but they would probably have. This all lines up with marlene's life and family in the comics
