Only what’s done for christ will last The poem repeats the phrase only one life, twill soon be past as a reminder to live for god and not for self. Give me father, a purpose deep, in joy or sorrow thy word to keep

Faithful and true what e’er the strife, pleasing thee in my daily life Studd, a missionary to china, india, and africa, expresses his conviction that only what's done for christ will last Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for christ will last

Oh let my love with fervour burn, and from the world now let me turn;

You may have learned as a child Only one life, 'twill soon be past, only what's done for christ will last. but do you know the whole poem? There is not a bible verse that states only what you do for christ will last. this idea is taken from a verse found in corinthians. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope

For since we believe that jesus died and rose again, even so, through jesus, god will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. Oh, let my love with fervor burn, and from the world now let me turn; “only one life ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for christ will last.” this is not merely a sentimental phrase but a divine mandate.
