Did jamie foxx actually sing in ray Despite the director taylor hackford who directed the film wanted ray charles's singing in the film there are 5 songs in which ray charles's actual voice didn't perform in which jamie foxx (who played the character) actually sung. In the film “ray,” jamie foxx delivers a truly remarkable performance as legendary musician ray charles

Foxx’s portrayal of charles is so convincing that many people may assume he is the one singing the iconic songs in the movie. However, foxx appeared in the musical film dreamgirls a couple of years later, in which he actually did sing. The music in the movie did not use anything of jamie foxx, piano or singing

Foxx's versions of ray charles standards appear on the more music from ray cd, but they were not in the film

Jamie foxx wasn't singing in the movie He wanted to but their voices don't match up and he agreed to lip sync from ray charles original masters. Foxx not only played an energized character in ray, but nailed the singing and movement style of the famous musician Foxx, however, did not do his own singing for the role.

While there's no question about the quality of jamie foxx's performance in ray, some may wonder if the actor is really singing throughout the biopic. Despite not singing in the movie, jamie foxx really played the piano in this biopic, so he got to showcase a little of his musical talent in the movie Plus, he even got to play with ray charles one time before making the movie
