Spanish friar ramón pané maintained a manuscript he created in the late 1490s after columbus’s arrival in 1492 on the practices and beliefs of the indigenous people of the island that he dubbed “hispaniola.” Ramón pané, chaplain to christopher columbus on his second voyage, arrived in hispaniola in 1493. Ramón pané was therefore part of columbus' second journey when he arrived on november 28, 1493 in puerto plata in what is now the dominican republic, where the first christian church was built.
